In asana practice students must remember to honor their own practice and abilities.  Every student that enters our studio is unique in their own physical capabilities and limitations.  Never push yourself into a posture that you are not comfortable with or ready for.  Remember to pay attention to your breath and allow that breath to guide your practice.  If at any time your breath becomes labored just back off of that particular asana or ask your teacher for a modification.  It is important to understand that yoga is experiential.  It is only through time that the power of this ancient practice truly reveals itself.  Everyone's journey is different.  Most importantly, remember that yoga is meant to be FUN!  Don't take yourself too seriously.  Your yoga time is your time to reconnect and rediscover the joy that is already within YOU.

What is yoga?
Yoga means yoke, union, or discipline.  In it's simplest form yoga is a system of specific poses (asanas), breathing exercises, and behaviors designed to heal, purify and bring awareness to both body and mind.  The physical practice itself dates back at least 3,500 years.  It wasn't until the 1930's that T. Krishnamacharya developed the asana practice that Westerners know and love today.
